This brief course explores how a calm classroom starts with defining your expectations, routines, and schedules, creating a predictable space where everyone knows what to do and what’s coming next. But even with strong, fundamental practices in place. there are times when some students need a space to help regulate their emotions and calm their senses.

This course provides simple strategies can increase students’ sense of safety and belonging. It’s important to recognize what makes a safe place. Remember, sometimes a student’s safe place isn’t a place, and it’s a person. Even as adults, we need to feel safe to speak up, thrive in relationships, and do our best work. Physiological Safety, physical safety and emotional safety    importance of creating a sense of belonging and how to make connections to students’ cultures and classroom content.

Research shows that students who feel safe and supported by adults at school are better able to learn. Safety, stability, and nurturing are three critical qualities of relationships that make a difference for children as they grow and develop, and certainly for those children and youth who have experienced trauma.
