Building a Foundation of Knowledge around Resilience and Healing in Schools

Welcome to the Learning & Resource Hub of the Center for Childhood Resilience at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Chicago’s Hospital of Chicago. CCR’s Learning & Resource Hub supports the adults who are part of school systems that are creating:

  • spaces that foster individual and collective growth
  • climates that are conducive to learning
  • climates that are conducive to teaching
  • school communities that are centered around the whole child
  • an environment of healing centered engagement.

Simply put, we provide information, resources and (online) social connections to help schools create happy, healthy learning spaces.

Continuing Education Opportunities

As a part of our partnership with the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), educators who complete this e-learning can earn FREE professional development hours. These are available to Illinois educators, administrators, school staff and school counselors. To earn PEL hours, participants must complete a short survey at the end of each training; then a certificate of attendance will be provided. Center for Childhood Resilience is an approved provider for ISBE professional development.

Why is this important?

Building a foundation of understanding and strategies around social and emotional learning, trauma-responsive practices, mental health and healing for both staff and students is imperative so that schools can be supportive and resilient places where all students, staff, and families can thrive.

Childhood trauma and traumatic stress can disrupt a child’s developmental course and lead to problems with brain development, learning, and relationships. Creating school environments that center positive relationships, safety and belonging, staff well-being and youth and family voice, and equity starts with being open to learning and adding new tools to your toolbox.
