A REACH Community of Practice (CoP) is a group of school community members from across the state who share a common interest in trauma-responsive practices in schools. They come together regularly to fulfill individual and group goals related to trauma-responsive practices. CoP facilitators support members in applying knowledge and insights gained through participation directly to their school community. For more information, contact Crissy Mombela at cmombela@partnership4resilience.org.

Registration opens January 15, 2025 and closes on February 19, 2025.

Building Bridges: Fostering Mutual Respect and Trust in the Classroom

Building Bridges taps into the strength of Communities of Practice to empower educators in creating classroom communities rooted in mutual respect and trust. Through collaborative dialogue and shared learning, participants will explore trauma-responsive strategies and social-emotional learning (SEL) to enhance relationships between staff and students. By cultivating inclusive and supportive environments, this CoP helps educators and students work together to build a culture of belonging and engagement that supports personal and academic growth.

Cultivating Trauma-Informed Classroom Strategies

This Community of Practice offers a space for participants to explore, reflect on and enhance knowledge of classroom management and implement trauma informed practice strategies into the classroom. Participants will engage in sharing resources and strategies that work and learn new ideas from others. Cultural considerations of trauma informed classrooms will also be discussed.

This community of practice engages participants over a sustained period of time allowing for analysis, discovery, and application as they relate to student learning, social emotional achievement and well-being by focusing on the components of a trauma-informed classroom and utilizing new strategies for participants to implement in their classrooms.

  • Integrate SEL and trauma-responsive practices into classroom and schoolwide policies.
  • Build effective, interdisciplinary teams that bridge education and mental health expertise.
  • Collect and use data to drive equity-focused decision-making for academic, emotional, and behavioral supports.

This Community of Practice offers a space to explore how we apply social and emotional learning skills to ourselves to more effectively teach and nurture students. Areas of engagement will include (but are not limited to): examining the
relationship between adult SEL and self-care; developing new strategies to enhance adult SEL competencies as defined by the Collaborative for Academic Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL); understanding the role of adult SEL in
implementing trauma responsive practices; and learning how to integrate an equity lens into our SEL practice.

Thriving Together: Culturally Responsive SEL for Newcomer Youth & Families

Free PELs and CEUs available

This Community of Practice (CoP) is dedicated to cultivating a supportive and empowering environment for newcomer and immigrant youth by seamlessly integrating social-emotional learning (SEL) with academic programs. By prioritizing culturally responsive practices, this CoP leverages both peer and adult-led initiatives to build resilience and foster a sense of belonging. Through the development of formal and informal support networks, participants work collaboratively to address the unique challenges these students and their families face, including trauma, cultural adjustment, and language barriers. The CoP’s mission is to ensure that every student not only adapts but thrives—socially, emotionally, and academically—within inclusive and equitable learning spaces.

Trauma, Racism and Equity

This Community of Practice seeks to reflect on our values and experiences, increase knowledge and skills related to trauma, racism, and equity (TRE) in schools, and learn strategies to improve school and broader policies related to TRE. Sessions will provide an opportunity to practice discussing issues related to TRE and build a network of allies. We will co-create our space and share the facilitator role throughout the process.

This Community of Practice provides a collaborative space for staff to reflect on their self-care practices and personal wellness goals while exploring strategies for co-regulation that benefit both adults and students. Together, we will examine how school systems impact our ability to care for ourselves and others and discuss ways to create a supportive culture where well-being is a shared responsibility. By fostering co-regulation practices, we aim to strengthen emotional resilience and build connections supporting a healthier, more balanced environment for staff and students.
