Making Connections – Accommodations for ADHD, Anxiety, Depression & Oppositional Behavior

Teachers are often the first to notice mental health problems in children. We will be discussing how to create and implement IEP and 504 plans with the highest-quality evidence-based accommodations for ADHD, anxiety, depression, and oppositional behavior, while providing education on how to collaborate with their mental health provider to obtain the support the child needs. Frequently, psychiatrists’ diagnoses need to involve collateral information from educators in order to establish a diagnosis OR to modify recommendations for already established diagnoses. When a child’s mental health symptoms are identified early and treated appropriately, this leads to better functioning of the child at risk and better outcomes for the educator in the classroom. It is important for children to have a collaborative multi-disciplinary team of adults who are helping support their wellness and success. Educators will have the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations, share experiences, and ask questions during a Q & A session afterwards. 

  • Learn how to recognize symptoms of ADHD, anxiety, depression, and oppositional behavior in the classroom   
  • Understand the association between mental health symptoms and school functioning and accommodation recommendations 
  • Discuss experiences and questions related to supporting student mental health in the classroom with other educators state-wide and MH providers.
