This summer, we’ll be reading Unearthing Joy by Gholdy Muhammad, a powerful follow-up to Cultivating Genius. In this text, Muhammad expands her framework to include a fifth pursuit: joy, defined as wellness, beauty, healing, and justice. She invites educators to center students’ cultural and historical identities while fostering skills, intellect, and critical thinking with purpose.
Through practical strategies, model lessons, and reflection, this book helps educators create learning experiences that are not only meaningful, but deeply humanizing and affirming for students.
