DESCRIPTION:How do I talk about what it means to be white with my white children? What does it look like to cultivate a healthy\, anti-racist white identity in kids? What are the steps that I can take as a parent\, educator\, and or adult that plays a meaningful role in the life of a child? \nJoin us for a 5-session Foundations training course during the spring of 2025 (April – June) on the topic “Nurturing a Healthy Racial Identity for White Children”. Together\, we will learn about racial identity development and racial socialization in white children\, consider the implications of whiteness and white culture\, and talk about practical steps that caregivers can take to nurture a healthy racial identity for white children. **Best for caregivers of white children\, ages 4-13. \nCourse Offerings \nAs part of registration\, you will be asked to indicate which group you would like to join. \nWednesday evenings\, from 7:30-9pm ET / 4:30-6pm PT \n\nClasses will meet on April 16\, April 30\, May 14\, May 28\, and June 11. This cohort will be co-led by Elizabeth Hart-Walker and Andrea Huang. SUMMARY:Secondary Traumatic Stress Core Competencies in Trauma-Informed Supervision
DESCRIPTION:Quality supervision is an important support that organizations can provide to staff members at risk of developing STS. The STS-Informed Supervisory Competencies were developed to guide supervisors in providing effective STS supervision. The University of Kentucky’s STS Innovations and Solutions Center has developed this training to assist supervisors in developing these competencies to effectively address secondary traumatic stress. \nWHO SHOULD ATTEND\nAnyone who supervises or supports front-line provid­ers exposed to indirect trauma in their work in any ca­pacity\, including peer supervision\, administrative su­pervision\, middle management\, and senior leaders. \nWHAT TO EXPECT\nThis free training will include the use of a self-rating tool to assist supervisors in monitoring their progress towards becoming STS-informed. The presentation will be interactive and fast-paced. Participants can expect to walk away with a wider grasp of STS and skills to effectively address secondary traumatic stress in their supervisees and/or peers. \nWHEN\n*This is a three-part training. Her expertise revolves around training and facilitating the implementation of evidence-based interventions through a comprehensive Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS). Collaborating closely with school districts and teams\, she plays a key role in fostering the development and sustainability of Behavioral Health Teams (BHTs). \nMaury Prieto\, MSW– Mental Health Consultant\, Center for Childhood Resilience – Maury Prieto is a social worker who has over 10 years of experience working with youth in school and community settings. She worked as a school social worker for 8 years in the Chicagoland area centering her work serving K-8 students and addressing social emotional needs. \nThe TISS-REACH Out initiative is specifically designed to support schools in Areas 1 and 6. This overview of BHT teams can inform schools’ decisions regarding their readiness to introduce BHTs into their existing system of support. \nThis course is an introduction to building systems of care within schools\, working with a multidisciplinary team. The work of the team utilizes the MTSS and trauma responsive framework. Participants will learn to identify and connect students with the appropriate level of care and interventions to be delivered in schools. Convening the Behavioral Health Team brings together administrators\, clinical staff\, and community partners for student-focused discussions and collaboration. The content engages participants to deepen their understanding of their roles and responsibilities in this process. \nOverall\, the REACH Out BHT initiative aims to increase student access to evidence-based and culturally relevant trauma support services and mental health care through innovative initiatives\, activities and programs to link local school systems with local trauma-informed support and mental health systems. These elements of trauma-informed practices have direct application to the ISBE Social and Emotional Learning standards as they provide school staff with tools to help students identify and manage their emotions and behaviors by elevating teams to provide tailored support.
